Is your boiler leaking water? Here’s what to do.

Discovering a boiler leak can be worrying. Not only can it be an expensive job, it could indicate something dangerous.

As with any boiler issue, it’s vital that you get your boiler checked over as soon as an issue arises, otherwise this could lead to more serious and costly problems.

A boiler leak is very rare, and water should not leak from it at all. However, on the occasion that this does happen, this might be why:

  • Your boiler pressure is too low
  • There’s too much pressure being released via the pressure relief valve
  • There may be an issue with the heat exchanger
  • The pipe joints may not be sealed properly
  • There’s possible wear and tear if your boiler is old

The signs of a leaking boiler

The first and most obvious sign that there’s a leak is the boiler cutting out. This may be because the pressure has dropped.

Secondly, you may see or hear water leaking from the pipework. You may also notice some mould, damp or water staining.

Check the areas around the boiler to see if you can spot any of these signs.

What to do if your boiler is leaking water

Thankfully, a boiler that is leaking water is more manageable than a gas leak.

The best thing to do is call a Gas Safe registered engineer. Thankfully, all of our engineers are on the Gas Safe register, so choosing Swale Heating for a boiler repair will give you peace of mind that your boiler is in good hands.

What to do if your boiler is leaking gas

It’s also important to note that if your boiler is leaking gas, follow these steps straight away:

  1. Immediately open all doors and windows
  2. Get rid of any naked flames, such as cigarettes or gas hobs
  3. Call the Gas Emergency Services on 0800 111 999

As always, it’s best to prevent any issues arising when it comes to your boiler and central heating system. If left unnoticed, problems become worse, meaning higher costs or having to shell out for a new boiler altogether.

Signing up to a boiler service or finance plan gives you peace of mind that your heating system remains in tip-top condition. And if anything does occur, you won’t be met with a hefty bill.
