Do I need a new boiler?

Signs your boiler needs to be replaced.

Here at Swale Heating, we know how vital it is to brush off those Monday morning blues. There’s nothing worse than that cold Monday morning. You can stop these shivering mornings and upgrade your boiler. Here, we have a few helpful tips so you know what to look out for if your boiler is no longer as efficient as it could be.

What are the signs that my boiler is in need of retirement?

Strange noises.

As boilers age, parts can wear out and, though these can be replaced, it can be more cost-effective to get a new boiler. If your boiler is making knocking, popping or hissing sounds when it’s on, you may need to look into getting a new boiler.

It regularly needs repairs.

You should have your boiler serviced annually by an approved Gas Safe engineer (contact us to book a service). If they have to keep replacing parts, or the boiler needs constant repairing, it’s time to think about replacing it altogether.

The water temperature fluctuates.

If your hot water takes a while to warm up, or runs hot and cold intermittently whilst running a sink or bath, then you probably need to replace your boiler as it is not functioning it as it should.

It’s old.

If your boiler is more than 10 years old, it may be worth replacing it. Even if it functions fine, the older it gets, the more likely it is to break down and not be as energy efficient as a new boiler. So, although getting a new one might seem like an expensive purchase, especially after the festive season, it could save you money in the long run by heating your house more effectively and bring those bills down.

It’s leaky.

Any leak should be investigated immediately because it could be a carbon monoxide leak, which can be severely damaging to your health.
