Swale Heating is urging the new Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to meet his manifesto pledge on the environment by extending the London Boiler Cashback Scheme to boost the number of inefficient boilers being replaced.
1,800 cashback vouchers have been issued since the scheme was launched in February and not all of those have been redeemed against the £2.6m budget. This is despite the original advice on the London Assembly website being: “We expect it to be very popular, so please apply soon to avoid disappointment.”
Launched under the former Mayor, Boris Johnson, the scheme gives £400 cashback to replace the most inefficient G or F rated boilers with an A rated appliance and covers only private homeowners and some landlords.
Swale Heating is one of the heating companies installing highly efficient boilers under the scheme. Sales Director, Matthew Edwards says that Sadiq Khan could follow through quickly on his pledge to reduce pollution by offering cashback on a wider range of boilers and to more landlords.
He has written to the new Mayor, urging him to take prompt action.
We are calling on Sadiq Khan to extend the current scheme to all inefficient boilers, not just F rated or worse. F or G rated boilers are only 70% efficient but even those rated B – E are not working at full efficiency. We would also urge him to extend the scheme to include more landlords.
We have written to him reminding him that every A rated replacement boiler can help reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 1.5 tonnes a year and makes London homes more comfortable and more affordable to heat. Who wouldn’t want that?
